Outreach Overview
To further the knowledge and awareness of the environment, EPIC carries out multiple types of outreach....
Radio and Television
EPIC biologists interview on local radio and television stations throughout the Caribbean. EPIC staff talk about the projects they are involved in as well as future projects EPIC would like to get involved in.
Bird Walks
EPIC sponsors bi-weekly bird walks where EPIC biologists take participants out to the local ponds to observe birds. These walks are a great opportunity to increase people's awareness of their local environment. See new EPIC-sponsored public bird watching towers on St. Martin.
Newspaper
EPIC conducts regular interviews with local newspapers throughout the Caribbean. This forum gives EPIC an opportunity to explain in detail our ongoing research as well as local conservation projects. Additionally, the newspapers give EPIC a chance to discuss local environmental issues and ideas regarding how to best deal with them. To see these articles, click here.
School Classroom Visits
EPIC visit local schools to talk about the environment. Using inter-active slide shows, we have given presentations on wetland conservation, bird conservation, and mangrove restoration.
Art Contests
We promote local environmental events by sponsoring art contests in regional schools. EPIC provides teachers with basic guidelines and give students a slide presentation on the environmental issue. The winners of the art contest have their art shown in local newspapers. Click here to see recent winners.
